Up-Cycling, the Economical Retail Therapy

As shoppers are becoming increasingly savvy, up-cycling has become a commonly used term by Melburnians when it comes to purchasing high-end fashion. Contradictory to the hours of tedious online haggling that we may have been once accustomed to, for those second-hand pieces which often arrive visibly “worn” and unpleasantly odorous, the process of buying, selling and exchanging pre-loved designer wear and accessories has never been so simple and sophisticated. We picked out a few of our favourite local retailers and events to put on your radar for those moments when you are craving some luxe retail therapy without the hefty price tag.

FASHION CONVERSION, the newest local designer consignment event bringing together thrifty fashion buyers and sellers, will take place in Collingwood this weekend. Created by Jordana-Lee Pearce, FASHION CONVERSION is said to be a shopping event that will present a curated collection of up-cycled apparel, hand-picked from the wardrobes of Melbourne’s own style-setters. With the support of well-respected print and online publication Fashion Journal, and an extensive range of designer labels on offer, this weekend’s event is sure to be one not to miss!
