Jungle boy bar

#VAMFFloves Bars

The spirits of the Festival team members are still high after experiencing the sunny, spring-like Melbourne weekend that just was. As daylight savings conveniently approaches, today the team have shared their favourite bars about town, a great list of spots to tick off on those soon-to-be warmer nights.

Boston Sub’s Jungle Boy (pictured above)

96 Chapel St, Windsor, VIC, 3181

Who knew that a freezer door within a hole in the wall sandwich shop was the key to unlocking one of the best bars in Melbourne. Once through the unassuming cool room door, you are met with a cosy, tiki theme bar where the cocktail menu is first class (beware the flaming cocktail in the tiki mug!) and the décor includes sleek arm chairs, quirky figurines, lots of plants and greenery and a cute outdoor area out the back.

Perfect for date night or pre drinks with the girls, Jungle boy has funky music and dim candle lit lighting. It attracts a nice crowd but be sure to try and get there early as the jungle boy secret is not so secret anymore, and it becomes a 1 in 1 out situation after about 9.30pm.

Pallino Bar & Bocce

790 High St, Thornbury, VIC, 3071

I visited this sweet and understated spot over the weekend just gone. Its name says it all, with this quaint bar providing a crowd-pleasing list of beverages, an impressive charcuterie board and the perfect garden for a fun, old-fashioned game of Bocce. I would highly recommend Pallino Bar for a night where you are after something low-key but still a little out of the ordinary.

Le Bon Ton

51 Gipps Street, Collingwood, VIC, 3066

Nestled in the back streets of Collingwood, Le Bon Ton offers up all that is to be had for ‘North Side cool’.  When ordering a cocktail, beer, wine, or Absinthe (served in the traditional method) from the extensive drinks menu, don’t forget to look up at the carved wooden canopy atop the bar.  To soak it all up, there is a rocking menu of American inspired snacks (they have their own smoker in the beer garden) which are available late into the weekend evenings.  With an intimate beer garden, restaurant and front bar the options here are endless from an intimate date to a group catch up. Le Bon Ton is set to be your next favourite haunt, which will steal your heart and have you coming back again and again.

Arbory Bar & Eatery

1 Flinders Walk, Melbourne VIC 3000

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Festival HQ, Arbory Bar & Eatery is the perfect place for after work drinks for those near the CBD. Situated directly next to Flinders Street Station, this open-air hot spot provides a wonderful Melbourne view, looking straight over the Yarra. With Espresso Martini’s on tap and a spread of delicious savoury and sweet dishes to indulge in, it is certainly one to keep in mind for those nearing summer evenings.
