#VAMFFloves Brekkie

After our ever-so typical Monday morning catch-ups in the Festival office, it’s not unusual that we find ourselves joyfully reminiscing about that perfect Saturday brunch that breezed by just a little too quickly. Ergo, the team has thoughtfully shared a list of their most treasured breakfast bars around Melbourne, and beyond! So if like us, the way to your heart is through your stomach, you’ll now have something to look forward to for the weekend which is surely imminent.

Liz Austin, Marketing & Communications Manager

“Ripponlea is quickly turning into a hub for foodies on the south side.  The teeny tiny little pocket of shops not only houses award winning Attica Restaurant, but also Hawk & Hunter, Ripponlea Food & Wine, Follow the Leader.  But Spout is certainly the stand out with their fresh local produce and genuinely friendly smiles.  With a toddler in toe, I cannot go past a reliably fabulous and easy to hold latte and croissant.  Teamed with the daily newspaper and chats with the locals, it’s the perfect way to start my day.”

“Setting up shop next to the fabulous Rose Street Artists Market in Fitzroy this cool café serves some of Melbourne’s best eggs and excellent coffee. The light and bright interiors are scattered with local artists work and just the right amount of indoor plants.  During the summer months you will want to soak up the sun with a freshly squeezed juice (would it be presumptuous to recommend The Dean) on the rooftop terrace, while a window seat with a bloody good coffee will warm you though in winter.  The seasonal menu which uses local produce is always changing and constantly delighting.  Once you’re done with brunch, go for a stroll around the market to cap off the perfect start to a weekend.”

“Expect: an extensive (non-smoking) courtyard that allows just the right amount of sunrays to peep through on a winter’s morning; lively chats with an Italian waiter (from Venice) about his past life in PR at Dolce & Gabbana; a soothing soundtrack featuring Frank Sinatra, Credence Clearwater Revival, and Bruce Springsteen amongst others.

Don’t expect: to leave without wanting to go back to try the dinner menu and carefully curated, extensive wine accompaniments.”

“If you’re looking for something different from your usual run of the mill spots, Baba Sus is the place to go. This gem, situated next to Burwood station, boasts innovative dishes with a uniquely Asian influence.  If like me, you have a sweet tooth, I would highly recommend the Hong Kong waffles! The care that is taken to their caffeine is evident through the barista’s coffee art. Last time I was greeted by the cutest bear on my hot chocolate!”

“Having only been open a week, FOG is a new healthy hot spot in which you should indulge. The café’s Cashew Milk Cinnamon Chai’s have fast become an absolute favourite of mine, especially on a chilly winter’s weekend morning. The food is naturally nourishing and delicious, making this eatery the perfect way to treat yourself without any added guilt.”
